Wird jedoch die Ge-nese, d.h. der Zusammenhang zwischen der Frontogenese, der planetarischen Zirkulation, der jahreszeitlichen Verteilung der Niederschläge und die unterschiedliche Erwärmung der jeweiligen kontinentalen und ozeanischen Bereiche beachtet, dann reduziert sich das Gebiet der tropischen Monsune auf Süd- und Südostasien sowie Ostasien, ausserdem noch auf Nordostafrika und Nordaustralien.
Dabei traten jedoch in der Vergangenheit erneut Probleme auf: Der ostasiatische Monsun passte nicht ganz ins Bild.
